<FONT face="Default Sans Serif,Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif" size=2><div><font size="2" face="Arial">The City of Long Beach City Manager’s Office
invites qualified candidates to apply for the full-time, unclassified position
of Youth and Gang Violence Prevention Coordinator. This position is funded
for three years by a State CalGRIP (California Gang Reduction, Intervention,
and Prevention) grant. The grant includes an annual salary increase.
The position may be funded in subsequent years, depending on funding availability.
The Youth and Gang Violence Prevention Coordinator is expected to
exercise a high degree of expertise in implementing an effective and successful
youth and gang violence prevention program. The position may require
evening and weekend hours to meet and give presentations to a variety of
groups and organizations.

<br><font size="2" face="Arial"><b>EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
</b></font>
<ul><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Coordinate, promote, and connect efforts
and resources to support youth and gang violence prevention, education
and awareness by collaborating with the Police Department, Health Department
Weed and Seed Project, and other City Departments, academic institutions,
and community partners;
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Work with community-based organizations and
other entities to develop a culturally sensitive public education awareness
campaign related to youth violence and gang violence;
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Provide assistance to families who seek resources
to prevent gang involvement with their children;
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Conduct outreach to community members following
youth violence and gang violence incidents to de-escalate community tension;
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Promote gang reduction, intervention, and
prevention education efforts; and
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Perform other related duties as required.
</font></li></ul>
<br><font size="2" face="Arial"><b>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
</b></font>
<ul><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Graduation from an accredited college or
university with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in a field related to the position
(professional experience that offers specific and substantial preparation
for the duties of the position may be substituted for the required education
on a year-for-year basis);
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Experience with youth and gang violence prevention
and/or intervention;
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Working knowledge of State of California
violent crime laws related to youth and gang violence and the investigation
of violations;
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Excellent oral and interpersonal skills with
the ability to interact effectively with a variety of persons;
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Skill to effectively listen, analyze, and
respond to a variety of concerns;
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Excellent writing skills with the ability
to prepare clear, concise reports and communications;
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Self starter with strong organizational skills
and experience in administering programs; and
</font>
</li><li><font size="2" face="Arial">Be available to work beyond normal working
hours.
