If you find yourself short on any of those materials, a Teacher Prep Party is just what you need! We will have our copiers, laminators, poster makers and planning space available to help you prepare for upcoming lessons. Questioning Strategies: Using a Meta-Cognitive Framework to Drive Questioning in Math Class
February 23; 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
New Haven, Connecticut
Hosted by Nancy Livingston, Director of Math Achievement
A goal of any strong math program is for students to obtain thinking skills that they can apply to any math problem. Successful math students engage in a clear meta-cognitive process that enables them to break down problems and evaluate their solutions.Teaching this thinking process is just as important (perhaps more) than teaching math procedures and concepts. Using strong questioning, you can guide your students to develop this thinking process. In this session, we will view video of students engaging in this meta-cognitive process and plan a lesson that applies a meta-cognitive thinking questioning framework. Attendees should bring a math lesson plan. Space is limited.
