One of the benefits of sharing an office with an arts consultant is that we
frequently get into discussions about the power of music to teach. Our
discussion yesterday was on trying to identify cherished songs from
different cultures and their authenticity.

For example I love listening to Irish tenors and to hear someone sing "Danny
Boy" always moves me. My American Irish colleague tells me it is a classic
with her family. We were not sure if in Ireland it is held with the same
regard. anyone know?

I have the lyrics to a song about teachers but we do not have the music. If
anyone can help that would be much appreciated. Read the lyrics at

Hearing Kate Smith sing "God Bless America" is another one.

As a multicultural educator I would love to engage my students from
different cultures by using their cherished songs. They don't have to be
patriotic songs.

Anyone care to share what they know? I would be happy to compile a list.
