*Outright Vermont Executive Director *

Reports to: Board of Directors
Status: Salary-Exempt

*Outright Vermont *seeks a dynamic individual with a passion for and
understanding of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning
(LGBTQQ) youth and proven leadership ability for the role of Executive
Director. The ideal candidate is results-driven with strong organizational
skills, demonstrated fundraising expertise, and self-motivation. Must be a
solid communicator, an effective advocate, and possess exceptional ability
to work with a variety of audiences, stakeholders and coalition partners.

*Organizational Overview: *Outright Vermont is the state’s queer youth
center and state wide advocacy organization. Based in Burlington, Vermont,
our mission is to build safe, healthy, and supportive environments for gay,
lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth (ages
13-22).Outright’s organizing strategy is based on a youth empowerment,
social change model that tells us that youth power is an essential element
in the fight for equal rights. We describe youth empowerment in two parts –
providing the safe space and resources so that youth can do the heavy
lifting themselves and adjusting the fundamental power dynamics so that
their hard work can achieve results.

Outright Vermont is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

*Job Summary and Qualifications: *

The Executive Director is responsible for executing the overall direction of
Outright Vermont and implementation of the vision, strategic goals and
objectives of the organization. The Executive Director supports the chair
and board to fulfill its governance function and manages and directs the
staff of the organization to accomplish its mission.

The Executive Director represents Outright Vermont before stakeholders,
funders, donors and others to advocate for its mission and programs. This
position includes significant in-state travel and occasional out of state
travel, including work on evenings and weekends..

*Key functions include: *

   - Youth Empowerment
   - Organizational Leadership
   - Community Engagement
   - Development and Fundraising
   - Accountability for Annual Action Plan Outcomes
   - Work with boards to develop strategic plan; assume primary
   responsibility for executing strategic plan

*Requirements:*

1.) Commitment to the principles of youth empowerment and youth-led
organizing

- Demonstrated ability to understand the cultures and needs of gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth and the queer community

2.) Ability to represent and mobilize Vermont’s LGBT community

- Demonstrated ability to communicate and speak publicly
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, and energize core constituency
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively

3.) Ability to Fundraise

- Demonstrated ability to fundraise, including the development and
maintenance of effective direct-mail fundraising campaigns, phone-a-thons,
and event management
- Demonstrated ability to secure alternative fundraising sources
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate major donors
- Demonstrated ability to write and obtain grants and manage grant reporting
processes

4.) Organizational Management

- Effective leadership with the ability to create a team-based operating
environment and motivate staff through visionary direction
- Demonstrated competency in the use of technology for advocacy, fundraising
and stakeholder communication
- A thorough knowledge of office software such as Microsoft office and donor
software such as GetActive or similar programs.
- Demonstrated leadership with board governance and management
- A working understanding of fiscal, organizational and human resources
systems
- Enjoyment of youth, ability to work in a youth- space, and a sense of
humor (a plus).

*Qualifications: *Bachelor’s Degree in related area required, master’s
degree preferred. Candidate must have at least five years of increasingly
responsible experience. Practice or knowledge of statewide organizing and
youth advocacy valued.
