ASSOCIATE EDUCATION CONSULTANT
ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $79,895 - $102,683
The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) is currently
recruiting for a high school mathematics consultant position for the
Bureau of Student Assessment.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The selected professional will provide assistance in the development,
administration, scoring, and reporting of Connecticut's statewide
assessment of high school mathematics, and will provide consultation to
local school districts in statistical analysis, understanding and use of
assessment results.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
* Coordinate the development and review of all mathematics test
and supplemental materials on the Connecticut Academic Performance Test
(CAPT);
* Conduct all CAPT Mathematics Advisory Committees ;
* Review, revise (as appropriate) and approve all live and
supplemental scoring materials for the mathematics section of the CAPT;
* Participate in the on-site monitoring (at testing contractor) of
training and scoring activities related to live and supplemental
mathematics tests including the review of various reports throughout the
scoring process;
* Assist with the review of test forms, administrative manuals and
other related test materials;
* Coordinate work with the test vendors and Department consultants
for CAPT;
* Assist with checking and reviewing CAPT reports before the
release of the results;
* Disseminate appropriate information regarding the CAPT to
districts and department staff;
* Represent the Connecticut State Department of Education at
various workshops related to the CAPT mathematics testing;
* Provide technical assistance and support to district CAPT test
coordinators, as appropriate;
* Provide administrative support for CMT as needed.
QUALIFICATOINS:
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
Knowledge of the philosophies, theories, and strategies for mathematics
curriculum, instruction and assessment; comprehensive knowledge of
Connecticut teaching and learning standards and national trends in
mathematics education and assessment (e.g., NCTM standards, NAEP,
TIMMS); knowledge of educational assessment practices; strong written
and oral communication skills; facility with computer applications
including statistical analysis packages; and the ability to develop and
maintain cooperative working relationships.
Minimum Experience and Training Required:
An earned advanced degree and five (5) years of relevant professional
experience or in lieu thereof, an equivalent combination of experience
and training as approved by the appointing authority.
Preferred Experience and Training
Ad advanced degree in mathematics education or related field; experience
as a mathematics teacher, mathematics specialist or supervisor; in-depth
knowledge of the Connecticut student assessment system and the
Connecticut mathematics curriculum standards; and knowledge of the
principles of student assessment.
