Hello,
My name is Carrie Kilman, and I'm a freelance writer for *Teaching Tolerance
* magazine. I'm researching an article examining LGTBQ-friendly schools like
New York City's Harvey Milk High School and Milwaukee's Alliance School.
I know this topic has been addressed in the past on this listserv, but I
thought it warranted asking again -- What do you think of LGBTQ-friendly
schools (often labeled "gay-friendly" schools in mainstream media)? Would
you like to see one in your community? Do you think they're a good idea? Do
you consider them necessary, but not ideal? Do you think they represent
modern-day segregation?
I'm interested in hearing from educators from a wide variety of perspectives
-- from those who support such schools as ideal, to those who hold a
critical perspective grounded in concern for inclusion and integration.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts. (And, if you're interested in
speaking offline in more detail, my contact information is below.)
Thank you!
