New Research on Young Children of Immigrants
Publication Date: November 2009
In Immigration, Diversity, and Education, editors Elena Grigorenko and
Ruby Takanishi present the first wave of studies about what is
happening to young children from birth to age 10 living in immigrant
families in the U.S.
This recently released volume complements a larger literature about
the lives of adolescents and young adults who are part of immigrant
families.
The articles lay a foundation for informing child and family policies,
based on emerging research on the ethnic, cultural, and linguistic
profiles of new Americans.
This edited volume presents an overview of research and policy issues
pertaining to children from birth to 10 who are first- and
second-generation immigrants to the U.S., as well as native-born
children of immigrants. The contributors offer interdisciplinary
perspectives on recent developments and research findings on children
of immigrants. By accessibly presenting research findings and policy
considerations in the field, this collection lays the foundation for
changes in child and youth policies associated with the shifting
ethnic, cultural, and linguistic profile of the U.S. population.
