Greetings!
The Loretta Y. Jackson-African American Historical Society (LYJ-AAHS),
located in Chickasha, has the distinct honor of hosting a national
conference. The Country School Association of America (CSAA) is planning its Tenth
Annual conference, June 21-23, 2010, at the University of Science and Arts
of Oklahoma in Chickasha. The Conference theme: "Blazing the Trail:
Education Among the Earliest Americans". Optional bus tour to several country
schools (June 23rd), including LYJ-AAHS's fully restored African American
one room school. Lead a panel discussion, present a paper, conduct a
workshop, present a play, organize a symposium or give a demonstration.
Deadline for proposals: March 1, 2010. For details, email Richard Lewis
<_richard.lewis-1 at nasa.gov_ (mailto:richard.lewis-1 at nasa.gov) >. For updates,
visit_http://www.countryschoolassociation.org/_
(http://www.countryschoolassociation.org/) .
I have attached a "call for proposals" flyer and am hoping you can
distribute it to your faculty and friends. This is CSAA's first visit to Oklahoma
and their first time to focus on early (rural) African American & Native
American education. The more widely we can distribute this call, the
better!
As we prepare for the 2010 CSAA conference, the LYJ-AAHS is asking anyone
who attended (or taught in) a one room school for their stories and
first-hand accounts of life in a one room school as well as copies of any
photographs. These stories will be compiled into a book. Attached is a "One Room
School Experience" flyer along with anAuthorization Form that I am hoping
you can also distribute to your faculty and friends. Anyone interested in
sharing their written experiences of attending/teaching (in) a one room
school may send accounts/photos andAuthorization Form to "One Room School",
