"API in a Changing Nation: Showcasing Asia Pacific Leadership and
Communities in the Northwest"

31st Annual NAAPAE Conference

May 1-2, 2009  Tacoma WA

CALL FOR PRESENTERS

The 31st NAAPAE conference will focus on three areas: 1) Social and Cultural
Issues of Asian Americans, Polynesians, or Pacific Islanders; 2) Education
and Leadership within the Asian American, Polynesian, or Pacific Islander
Communities; and 3) Outreach to Asian American, Polynesian, or Pacific
Islander Communities. Individuals are invited to provide workshops or
summaries of research papers on these areas. Workshops or presentation might
be about any of the following topics:

Social and Cultural Issues (includes, but not limited to, the following
topics):
Adolescents and Gangs Gender and Sexuality
Chemical Dependency and Heritage, Language, and Culture
Demographic Changes Labor and Immigration
Mental Health Identity
Education and Leadership (includes, but not limited to, the following
topics):
Bilingualism No Child Left Behind
English Language Acquisition Political Participation
Ethnic Studies Service Learning
Higher Education Teacher Education
Outreach (includes, but not limited to, the following topics)
Business and Politics Representation in Politics
Family-School-Community Partnership School Boards
Community Participation Social and Legal Services
Public Policy Youth Advocacy

Schedule and Time Limits:

Workshops and presentations will be held on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May
2, and will last 60 minutes. Some presentations might be scheduled to
include two or three speakers, with each speaker having less than 60 minutes
to summarize the research and discuss implications for Asian Americans,
Polynesians, or Pacific Islanders.

Submitting a Proposal:

Proposals must be submitted in electronic format through the internet or on
a CD. Submissions must include the information on the "Presenters
Information Form."

Method for Submission:

Send proposals as e-mail attachments to Minh-Anh Hodge, at
mhodge at tacoma.k12.wa.us.  CDs can be sent by postal mail to:

Deadline:

Proposals submitted electronically by February 28, 2009, receive priority
for selection. Also receiving priority are proposals submitted on a CD and
postmarked by February 28, 2009.

Notification:

Notification of acceptance will be sent to the contact person by e-mail no
later than March 13, 2009.

Registration:

All presenters must register for the conference. Mail the Registration Form
and Fees to Minh-Anh Hodge.  Registration must be postmarked no later than
March 20, 2009.
