Hey group, 

We're trying to get the word out to the National Association for
Multicultural Education regarding a couple of upcoming mapping workshops in
New Mexico, Virginia, Louisiana, California, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and
Arizona. The workshops are geared toward beginners who would like to map
demographic information for your community.

Richmond: February 19th and 20th, 2009*
Mapping Louisiana Communities: An Introduction to GIS & Community Analysis
Baton Rouge: February 25th and 26th, 2009* 
New Orleans/Metairie : February 27th, 2009
Mapping California Communities: An Introduction to GIS & Community Analysis
Los Angeles: March 5th and 6th, 2009*
Sacramento: March 5th and 6th, 2009* 
San Jose/Santa Clara: March 11th, 2009
Orange/Irvine: March 12th and 13th, 2009*
Fresno: March 13th, 2009
San Diego: March 18th, 2009
San Francisco : March 19th and 20th, 2009*
Mapping Massachusetts Communities: An Introduction to GIS & Community
Analysis
Boston: March 26th and 27th, 2009*
Mapping Minnesota Communities: An Introduction to GIS & Community Analysis
Minneapolis/Edina : April 7th and 8th, 2009*
Mapping Arizona Communities: An Introduction to GIS & Community Analysis
Phoenix: April 30th and May 1st, 2009* 
*These are one-day workshops (8:30am - 4:30pm). Participants choose which
day to attend.
Audience: Beginners, anyone interested in mapping their community. 
Focus: This workshop is customized for each location.

This hands-on workshop focuses on teaching the fundamentals of using a
Geographic Information System (GIS) for community analysis. Participants
will learn to create thematic maps with Census data, Geocoding (Address
mapping) and Spatial Queries. Other features of the workshop are learning to
extract Census data and good map layout and design.
