Saludos amig at s,

The Graduate Fellows Program taking place at the annual meeting of the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) is now accepting applications. The conference this year will be in Costa Mesa, CA. I was fortunate to take part in this program this past conference and it was an experience that I will treasure both academically and personally. Please consider applying or pass this along to your students/colleagues. I would be happy to answer any questions/concerns.

Abrazos,
Joyce

2010 Graduate Fellows Program

The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE), Inc. is now accepting applications for the AAHHE Graduate Student Fellows Program. Fellows will attend the 2010 AAHHE National Conference: "Raices y Alas / Roots and Wings: A Mal Tiempo / Buena Cara." The conference will be held March 4-6, 2010 at the Hilton Costa Mesa Hotel in Costa Mesa, CA. Participation in the AAHHE Graduate Student Fellows Program will begin on March 2nd, continue throughout the conference, and end at noon on March 7th. Please refer to the AAHHE website, www.aahhe.org<http://www.aahhe.org/>, for more information about AAHHE and a listing of former Graduate Fellows.

Fellowship Applicant selection will be based on the following criteria:

 *   Must be Hispanic, Latina/o and or Chicana/o;
 *   Enrollment in full-time graduate study in a master’s or doctoral program;
 *   Demonstration of academic potential through past experiences and future career goals;
 * Aspiration to enter the professoriate and/or administration in higher education.

The AAHHE Graduate Student Fellowship includes conference registration fees, special events, hotel accommodations, and travel (funds may be available for students unable to secure additional support from their departments). Please note that we will be extending 20 students an invitation to participate in the 2010 Graduate Student Fellows Program (GSFP). However, due to financial limitations, we will only award 15 students with fellowships. The additional five Fellows will need to provide their own funding or work with their college/university to secure financial support.

Fellowship recipients are required to participate in the following:

 *   Attend the entire conference including special events sponsored by AAHHE;
 *   Provide staffing support for AAHHE activities (i.e. interact with other AAHHE members);
 *   Develop a Policy Brief (i.e. memorandum) under the guidance of an AAHHE member;
 * Discuss your research with AAHHE members (e.g., thesis/dissertation topic, forthcoming manuscript, research proposal, or fellowship application).

Application Procedures:

To apply for an AAHHE Graduate Student Fellowship, submit the following materials online no later than Thursday, October 1, 2009 by 5:00pm (PST) at http://aahhe.org/gradStudentProgramForm.aspx:

 *   Application form
 * Letter of interest (no more than 1,500 words)
 *   Resume/Vita
 * Letter of support (from an advisor, supervisor, or faculty member)

Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all materials are submitted no later than Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 5:00pm (PST). AAHHE will notify you by November 7th regarding the status of your application. If you would like more information, please contact David Pérez II, 2010 Graduate Student Fellows Program Chair, via email at perez at psu.edu<mailto:perez at psu.edu> or visit AAHHE’s website at http://www.aahhe.org/.
