*Teri and Art Iwasaki Scholarship *



The *Japanese American Living Legacy* organization proudly announces the
award process for the 2009 *Teri & Art Iwasaki Scholarship Award *has begun*
.  *Art and his children (Robert, Stephanie, Christie, Paul and Leslie)
created the “Teri and Art Iwasaki Scholarship” to support the rising costs
of education and to honor Art’s late wife, Teri.



Art served in the segregated unit that became the most decorated Army
infantry group in U.S. history, the 442nd, during World War II.  Art
Iwasaki, a member of I Company 442nd Regimental Combat Team.  He fought
across France and Italy, suffering wounds three times, for which he was
honored with a Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters, as well as a Bronze
Star.  He and his family are natives of Hillsboro, Oregon.





*Application Instructions*



To apply for the *Teri and Art Iwasaki Scholarship*, you must:



Ÿ         Be a graduating high school senior, residing in the United States.

Ÿ         Be a descendent of, or related to a Nisei WWII veteran.

Ÿ         Submit application form (form can be downloaded from
www.jalivinglegacy.org) along with supportive documents* *by *April 30, 2009
*.

Ÿ         Student must also submit (1) most recent *official* and
*sealed *transcript,
(1) ACT or SAT sealed score report, and (1) one letter of recommendation
from a teacher or community leader/spokesperson.

Ÿ         In lieu of a Personal Statement, applicant may submit any creative
project (interviews, video, poem, artwork, etc.) which relates to one of the
following topics:

§         How you can better serve the preservation of the Japanese American
Living Legacy from what you have learned from a WWII Nisei veteran?

§         What you have learned from an interview with a Nisei veteran and
how it impacted your life.

§         How a Nisei WWII veteran affected the lives of you and/or your
family.

§         What have you know about the Japanese American experience during
WWII and how has it affected your personal growth.

Ÿ         Notification will be via email sometime in May.
