Fall Forum 2009 celebrates *CES's 25th anniversary* with powerful exchanges
of innovative practices and democratic policies that increase equitable
student achievement.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS OPEN NOW!
>From April 9 through May 18, CES is accepting proposals for conference
sessions that reflect the CES Common Principles and analyze the successes
and challenges of student-centered teaching and learning, with emphasis on
promoting equity and democracy in schools. For more on Fall Forum conference
content strands, session types, and other information to guide you through
the online session submission process, visit

Facilitating a session provides unique professional development and
networking opportunities; CES affiliates who facilitate are eligible for fee
waivers and discounts. Notification of acceptance is in early June.

Get ready to submit session proposals to share your experience and insight
with like-minded practitioners, and plan to join us in New Orleans in
November. Now, more than ever, be a part of our movement to change schools
and change lives.

FALL FORUM 2009 HIGHLIGHTS!
 *Opening Keynote Speaker Gloria Ladson Billings:* Gloria Ladson Billings is
the Kellner Family Professor of Urban Education at the University of
Wisconsin Madison. Ladson Billings's research examines the pedagogical
practices of teachers who are successful with African American students. She
is the author of critically acclaimed books that include, *The Dreamkeepers:
Successful Teachers of African American Children*.

*Featured Speaker Grant Wiggins:* Grant Wiggins is the President of
Authentic Education in Hopewell, New Jersey. Wiggins consults with schools,
districts and state education departments on a variety of reform matters;
organizes conferences and workshops; and develops print materials and web
resources on curricular change. He is perhaps best known for being the
co-author, with Jay McTighe, of *Understanding by Design* and *The
Understanding by Design Handbook*.

*Additional Featured Speakers and Sessions:* Anti-racist educator Tim Wise;
Art Start Hip-Hop founder Chris "Kazi" Rolle; Vice President of National
Youth Leadership Council Wokie Weah; the Forum for Education and Democracy;
CES co-founder Deborah Meier; Boston Arts Academy Headmaster Linda Nathan;
CES's 25th anniversary celebrations and reflections; New Orleans panel
discussion; and an Equity Town Hall.

*Pre-Conference Service-Learning with the Crescent City Art Project:* In
solidarity with the people of New Orleans, join hundreds of students and
educators in a service-learning experience designed to renew the city's
schools and communities co-created by CES and the Crescent City Art

Through Crescent City's Paint the Change Program, service-learning
participants join school communities to transform school landscapes from
mundane environments to colorful, artistic places of learning.

*Day-Long Pre-Conference Sessions and School Visits:* CES offers a range of
in-depth learning experiences and off-site school visits; more information
on these opportunities coming soon.

*Networking and Relationship Building:* Fall Forum provides opportunities
for team building and networking, including an interactive Opening Session
on Thursday, November 5, followed by a reception. Meals and breaks are
designed to support informal social gatherings for participants to meet,
discuss their work, and build a network of professional support.

*Youth Participation:* We strongly encourage youth participation at Fall
Forum, with content strands and session types specifically geared for youth,
and a day-long Youth Forum on Thursday, November 5.
