Greetings from the American Conference on Diversity!

The American Conference on Diversity is a human relations organization in
New Jersey that values diversity, educates and empowers leaders, promotes
inclusion and respect in schools, workplaces and communities. New Jersey is
the most diverse state in the country and more than 26% of its population
speaks a language other than English. The work of the American Conference
on Diversity is among the most important activities we can do to create a
positive, inclusive society. Our vision is to work with leaders to create
and enhance a society that embraces social justice for us all.

On behalf of the American Conference on Diversity, I extend this invitation
to participate in our 2009 Educators' Institute, "Reaching and Teaching
Immigrant Students." The Institute will focus specifically on immigrant
student issues while providing participants with a variety of theoretical
and practical applications for learning. It also features a NEW, REVISED
CURRICULUM which includes a segment on increasing Parental Involvement.

The American Conference on Diversity, in cooperation with the Peter
Sammartino School of Education at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and with
funding from the Wachovia Foundation, is pleased to present the 2009
Educators' Institute "Reaching and Teaching Immigrant Students" focusing on
the factors and issues impacting immigrant students in the classroom. Open
to all teachers, administrators, counselors, educators and other individuals
interested in building more inclusive and affirming classrooms and
educational environments, the Educators' Institute will afford participants
the opportunities to explore and develop strategies to effectively navigate
diversity issues in schools. Each Educators' Institute course series lasts
two full days and participants will receive 12 CEU hours upon completion of
both days of an Educators' Institute session. The registration fee for the
Educators' Institute is only $65 and it covers all training materials,
handouts and meals (breakfast and lunch). In addition, each participant
will receive a complimentary copy of "Rethinking Our Classrooms: Teaching
for Equity and Social Justice," a Rethinking Schools Publication and
"Planning to Change the World: A Plan Book for Social Justice Teachers," an
Education for Liberation Network Publication.

NEXT SESSION: May 1 and May 8 - Raritan Bay Area YMCA (Perth Amboy, New
Jersey)
