ELEMENTARY SCIENCE EDUCATION: Assistant Professor, full-time tenure track position. The Department of Teaching and Learning at Northern Illinois University is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position in the area of Elementary Science Education.  The qualified candidate is expected to be an exemplary educator who can contribute to both undergraduate and graduate programs in Elementary Education.  The Department of Teaching and Learning is a broad-based department, with programs serving majors in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, and Curriculum and Instruction.

Responsibilities:
Faculty will work in a collegial dynamic atmosphere to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary science education; conduct research and write grants appropriate to his or her scholarly interests related to the position; advise graduate students; and participate in service to the department, college, and university. It is an expectation of the faculty member to work both in the field as well as in the classroom.  Faculty will work with traditional undergraduate students as well as teachers transitioning to teaching from other professions. Teaching off-campus is expected.

Required Qualifications:
(1) Earned doctorate in Science Education or Elementary Education, or related field (or ABD with established defense date); (2) expertise and experience in elementary and/or middle school science education;(3) a minimum of three years of elementary and/or middle school teaching experience; (4) successful experience working with diverse learners; (5) a record of scholarship in areas related to the position; and (6) effective interpersonal communication skills.
	
Preferred Qualifications:
Priority will be given to candidates who have experience teaching at the college level, experience procuring grants, experience integrating technology into teaching, and experience and expertise in environmental education.
