Job Description
Curriculum Research Assistant
Teaching for Change's mission is to provide teachers and parents with the
tools to transform schools into centers of justice where students learn to
read, write and change the world.
One of our Professional Development programs is working with the public
school district in McComb, Mississippi to redevelop their US History
curriculum around the Civil Rights Movement, incorporating key lessons from
Teaching for Change's own publication, Putting the MOVEMENT Back into Civil
Rights Teaching and ensuring that McComb's own rich history around the Civil
Rights Movement is taught to local students. See

Teaching for Change seeks a Curriculum Research Assistant to assist with the
research and formatting of the 8th grade US History course curriculum, which
is heavily based on A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist with research for 8th grade US history course, using the Internet
and traditional resources.
* Format curriculum into standard format.
* Be available for regular meetings in our Washington, DC offices in the U
Street corridor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Proficiency with MS Word, including using style sheets
* Extensive Internet research abilities
* Deep knowledge of US History and familiarity with Zinn's A People's
History of the United States
* 4th grade or above teaching experience preferred, but not required
* Ideal position for an Education or US History graduate student or post-doc
Hours
12 hours week @ $15/hr. Schedule is flexible. Through end of 2008.
