Controversial Bid for Stadium Naming Rights

September 2008

Allianz, a large German insurance firm that once had ties to the Nazi
regime, is negotiating for naming rights to the new Giants/Jets football
stadium. The League said it is inappropriate and an insult to the memory of
Holocaust victims and World War II veterans for the stadium to bear the name
of a company that played a role in Hitler's Final Solution.

ADL Statement on Allianz and Giants/Jets Stadium Naming Rights

September 11, 2008 - The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) issued the following
statement regarding the possibility of the new Giants and Jets stadium in
the Meadowlands being named for the German insurer, Allianz:

It is inappropriate and an insult to the memory of Holocaust victims for the
new Giants and Jets stadium to be named for Allianz, a company that played a
role in Hitler's Final Solution.

The New York region is home to many Holocaust survivors and their families
and to World War II veterans for whom memories of the war are still
vivid. We hope that the teams' ownership will take this into account as
they move toward a decision on naming rights.
