General Description of Job/Objectives: Multicultural Student Affairs and the James Farmer Multicultural Center strives to facilitate students' learning and personal development, including that of under-represented groups, by increasing students' awareness and knowledge of diversity issues (i.e., cultural, ethnic, intellectual and social) that frame both the individual and the community.
Organizational Objective: Multicultural Student Affairs and the James Farmer Multicultural Center strives to facilitate students' learning and personal development, including that of under-represented groups, by increasing students' awareness and knowledge of diversity issues (i.e., cultural, ethnic, intellectual and social) that frame both the individual and the community.
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification required for entry into position (specifying required and preferred): Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree may substitute for extensive experience. Experience in diversity or multicultural programming in a collegiate setting is required. Multicultural competency and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and evidence of the creation of innovative programming for academic settings; knowledge of structure and policies of an institution of higher learning is preferred; previous administrative experience is required; demonstrated ability in problem solving, and conflict resolution; Demonstrated experience in the coordination and support of multicultural and leadership programs and activities. Experience in coordinating transition and retention strategies for multicultural student populations to address differentials in attrition and retention. Experience in working with multicultural student organizations in a university setting. Demonstrated ability in problem solving, and conflict resolution. Experience cultivating close working relationships with students, student organizations, faculty and staff in order to build community and promote the services of the department. Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills are also required.
