Equity Retention Advisor

The Equity Retention Advisor, a new position in Educational Equity Programs
and Services, is responsible for providing academic support services and
referral to first generation, underrepresented, and multicultural students,
some of whom enter the University under prepared. He/she manages a caseload
of students by providing academic advising, personal counseling, academic
skills workshops/classes, and appropriate referrals that guide students as
they transition to Portland State and continues to support them as they work
to attain their educational goals.  The Equity Retention Advisor is a member
of the Educational Equity Programs team and works collaboratively with other
student affairs and campus staff and with faculty to support student success.
 The FTE for this position is .75 to 1.0, salary range $36,000-42,012(
annual/12 months).

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

   - Bachelor's degree and 2-3 years of relevant work experience in student
   services at the post-secondary level. Related work in advising and/or
   counseling high school students or adults for college entry may be
   substituted for experience in a post-secondary institution.
   - Masters degree related to counseling, student services/student affairs,
   or social work, with at least 1 year experience in college or university
   setting is preferred.
   - History of working with multicultural communities; competency working
   with diverse communities necessary.
   - First generation background preferred.
   - Bilingual skills (Spanish-English) preferred.
   - Presentation skills, including college success workshops, preferred.
