Position Summary The Department of Intercultural Student Services is
recruiting for a Director of CASA Latina/o de OSU. This is a full-time
(1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term professional faculty position with
renewal at the discretion of the Executive Director.
The Director would be responsible for the administration, management
and operation of the CASA Latina/o de OSU to increase the recruitment,
retention, student development, academic performance and graduation of
students of Latino/a, Hispanic, and/or Chicano/a heritage. Leads
community-building efforts, works collaboratively with student
leaders, faculty, staff, and community to carry out the vision of CASA
Latina/o de OSU, the Intercultural Student Services Department,
Student Affairs, and Oregon State University. The Director will
develop educational and cultural education programming collaborating
with and to students, the OSU campus, and the surrounding communities.
The Director will report to the Executive Director of Intercultural
Student Services (ISS) and will actively and collaboratively work with
the ISS team to promote a learning environment which encourages
dialogue and increase effectiveness on/about issues of importance to
racial minority, multi-racial, multi-identity, women, LGBTQ, and other
underrepresented students
Position Duties 45% - Recruitment: Develop and coordinate the
recruitment of Latino/a, Hispanic, and Chicano/a students by the CASA
Latina/o de OSU. Establish and maintain Latino/a, Hispanic, and
Chicano/a community alliances and other communication venues to access
the Oregon and Northwest Latino/a, Hispanic, and Chicano/a community.
Explore collaboration and coordination opportunities with the other
campus units while considering the input of the Latino/a, Hispanic,
and Chicano/a community. Create strategic plans to increase the
Latino/a, Hispanic, and Chicano/a student population at Oregon State
University. Represent OSU in outreach and recruitment efforts
45% - Retention and Success: Direct the development and implementation
of retention and success programs for Latino/a Hispanic, and Chicano/a
by
a) facilitating student and their family's transition to college life
and the university environment;
b) providing support and advocacy, serve as a conduit for information
and make referrals for academic, financial, personal, interpersonal,
career and cultural issues that facilitate the success of Latina/o,
Hispanic, Chicana/o students;
c) developing strategic partnerships with academic units and programs,
e.g., to increase Latina/o students participation in
underrepresentation in particular careers. Collaboratively works with
other on and off campus units and agencies to execute programs.
d) providing leadership development by serving as a mentor, and
advisor for individual students and student groups, advisory boards,
and organizations;
e) facilitating the building of community among the diversity of
groups within the Latino/a, Hispanic, and Chicano/a community,
f) Position Duties (continued): 10% - Administration: Manage the
daily operation of the CASA Latina/o de OSU including budget
management and facilitate the assessment and identification of the
support services needed for CASA Latina/o de OSU programs benefiting
the Latino/a, Hispanic, and Chicano/a students. Contribute to the
functioning, and programming of ISS.
Reporting: Keeping the ISS Director and ISS Team and the Latino/a,
Hispanic, and Chicano/a community-at-large informed of the
accomplishments, opportunities and challenges facing the achievement
of the mission of the CASA Latina/o de OSU Office.
Membership: on the ISS Department Leadership Team, contributing to
programming and functioning; and the Student Affairs Leadership Team
(SALT).
Supervising: Student employees, intern, and graduate assistants in ISS.
Other duties as assigned. Requires abilities to work in evening and on
weekends.
Minimum Qualifications Typically requires Masters degree and
significant professional experience in assigned functional area(s); OR
equivalent combination of education & experience. Demonstrated
successful managerial and leadership experience. Clear understanding
of the mission of a land grant institution. Please see "Additional

Additional Required Qualifications
ADDITIONAL REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
Masters degree plus 2 years full time professionally related
experience or a Bachelors degree with 3-5 years of full time
professionally related experience in recruitment and retention
including student achievement, development, outreach, engagement and
success with bilingual communities and community building.
Knowledge/and or training in issues impacting students personal,
social, cultural, spiritual, academic and career development. High
level of inter-intra- and cross-cultural competency.
Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity,
cultural competence, and social justice.
Professional level related experience in the educational issues facing
the Latino/a, Hispanic, and Chicano/a communities, organizations, and
resources preferred. Knowledge of, experience with recruitment of
Latina/o students . Knowledge of, experience, and success in applying
strategies to retain students. Demonstrated leadership experience and
expertise as an advocate, community organizer, mentor and advisor to
individuals/groups, who has been successful in leadership development,
and outreach and community involvement.
Demonstrated understanding and effectiveness with the diversity within
the Latino/a, Hispanic, and Chicano/a cultures including urban/rural
and generation/geography.
Ability to communicate effectively using written and oral Spanish in a
full range of academic and community settings.
Knowledge and understanding of historical, social, and political
issues affecting the Latino/a, Hispanic, and Chicano/a communities
that negatively impact the pursuit of higher education.
