Racial Justice Planning and Development Specialist II
Essential Responsibilities:
Develop and implement strategies to eliminate institutionalized racism and
promote multiculturalism within the City of Seattle through the City's Race
and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI). Coordinate and promote racial justice
public engagement and communications goals. Provide lead staffing for the
Outreach and Public Engagement work group. Work with City departments to
ensure inclusive public engagement efforts. Work with communities of color
and refugee communities to promote inclusion and participation in city
process and services. Develop communication materials for the Initiative,
including written resources and web pages. Coordinate SOCR/RSJI related
events across city departments and within the community. Provide RSJI
training and technical assistance to City employees. Plan and develop public
education and outreach programs and activities that educate about racial
justice. Develop strategies, in conjunction with other institutions and
community based organizations, to address race-based disparities in the
community. Deliver RSJI presentations. Staff RSJI community events. Other
duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Two years of experience with policy analysis, including project or program
planning and evaluation, and advocacy, with an emphasis on racial justice,
civil rights, or other equal protection and access issues. Excellent
written and oral communication skills. The Seattle Office for Civil Rights

institutional racism; successful candidates must demonstrate an
understanding of the relationship of race, racism, and multiculturalism to
their job function and their commitment to creating organizations free of
racism. Bachelor's Degree in Social Science, Public Administration or
related field, or a combination of education and/or training and/or
experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the
work of this position. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse
populations. Competent with software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
etc. Current driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience developing and delivering training. Facilitation experience.
Ability to problem solve and build consensus with diverse groups;
willingness to flex regular working hours in order to attend evening and
weekend meetings when necessary; bilingual fluency in a second language such
as Vietnamese, Amharic, Russian, etc. Demonstrated commitment to
anti-racist and social justice work.
