Description
The Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) improves educational
results for children, youth, and adults by providing research and
development assistance in delivering equitable, high-quality educational
programs. NWREL is a private, nonprofit corporation which has served the
Northwest region since 1966 as its Regional Educational Laboratory under
contract with the U. S. Department of Education, as well as other federal,
state, and local agencies and organizations.
The Center for Classroom Teaching and Learning (CCTL) provides
research-based resources and services to enable educators to implement
high-quality curriculum, instruction, and assessments that foster improved
learning, performance, and achievement for all students.
Duties
- Working with staff, provide leadership to establish an even more
coherent vision and growing portfolio of work for CCTL that aligns with the
NWREL mission and contributes to accomplishment of NWREL strategic goals
- Lead resource development efforts to assure adequate and growing
funding to support work envisioned for the Center
- Lead and contribute to enhancing the regional and national reputation
of staff, the Center, and NWREL as providing superior quality, technically
sound service in high needs topics related to content focused classroom
teaching and learning
- Working with managers in CCTL, plan and manage multiple budgets to
complete work specified in contracts and grants with high quality and
available funding
- Lead staff through growth oriented supervision to enhance their skills
and productivity
- Contribute to the leadership and success of NWREL as an organization
through participation as a member of Executive Cabinet, participation in
organizational events and initiatives, promotion of cross-center
initiatives, and participation in meetings of the Board of Directors
Qualifications Education/Training
Master's degree in education or other field related to teaching and
learning.
Experience
The successful applicant should have the following skills, knowledge, and
abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of regional and national trends in classroom
focused school improvement/change efforts
- Five years experience in leading and managing senior staff, including
oversight of their continuing growth and development
- Proven track record in developing and maintaining over time a
program/center that has broad, clear focus and multiple funding sources
- Proven track record of resource development, including proposal writing
- Excellent interpersonal skills in working with diverse clients and
staff to plan and complete projects and activities
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication
Desired/Preferred
- Doctoral degree in education or other field related to teaching and
learning
- Ten years experience in leading training, technical assistance,
development, evaluation and/or research related to content focused classroom
teaching; literacy and/or ELL content background preferred
Physical Demands/Conditions:
Office
- Sit for prolonged periods of time, finger dexterity for the operation
of a personal computer, operate a telephone, ability to lift or transport
small packages weighing up to 35 pounds, frequent interruptions to
concentration, interact with a wide range of clients and co-workers.
Travel
- Moderate to extensive travel requirements (25% to 40 % of work
schedule) including overnight stays out of state.
- Ability to travel by car, plane or common carrier for out of state and
rural travel.
- Ability to transport and/or handle moderate sized packages and
materials (up to 35 ponds) at on-site locations.
Compensation Salary up to $129,121, depending on qualifications, plus a
benefits package that includes vacation, generous employer paid retirement,
medical, dental, life insurance, transportation benefit, and opportunities
