Kennesaw State University seeks a noted scholar and national leader for a
new cabinet-level position, Chief Diversity Officer. Collaborating with
colleagues from across campus to build community, the CDO will help expand
approaches for doing public work to promote diversity at Kennesaw State.
Reporting to President Daniel Papp, the CDO will coordinate
diversity-oriented programs and initiatives, including the development and
implementation of a specific strategic plan for diversity in line with the
university's strategic plan, which has made diversity and equity top
priorities for the coming years.
Modeling for colleagues across the university, the CDO will teach through a
faculty appointment consistent with his/her area of scholarly expertise. By
building upon a year-long assessment that was guided by Daryl Smith's model,
the CDO will lead KSU's efforts to promote and coordinate research,
curriculum, training programs and grant initiatives on diversity and
inter-cultural competencies; develop systemic structures to recruit, retain
and promote diverse students, staff and faculty; foster a campus climate
that respects and values diversity among students, faculty and staff; chair
the university Diversity and Equity forum, including coordinating ongoing
assessments of diversity that use a range of data-gathering approaches.
Qualifications for the position include the following: demonstrated
administrative leadership skills in areas of diversity and equity;
demonstrated excellence and national reputation as a scholar and teacher
whose area of expertise focuses on diversity; a terminal degree and
credentials meriting appointment as a tenured faculty member at the level of
associate or full professor; clear ability to promote productive
collaboration across multiple groups of stakeholders involved in diversity
and equity efforts; experience generating curriculum and leading
professional development associated with diversity and equity topics.
KSU is a growing, progressive university in Georgia's public system of
higher education. Located on an attractive campus in suburban Atlanta, KSU
currently enrolls 20,000 traditional and nontraditional baccalaureate,
master, and doctoral students.
