Vice Provost for Diversity & CDO
Cornell University invites nominations and applications for the
position of Vice Provost for Diversity and Chief Diversity Officer
(CDO). Cornell University seeks an accomplished scholar and academic
leader to assume this new role. The CDO will serve as a core member of
the university s leadership team, reporting directly to the Provost of
the Ithaca campus, and working closely with the President; s/he will
provide and coordinate the theoretical and applied expertise required
for the university to achieve its diversity and inclusion goals.
Located in Ithaca, N.Y., Cornell University is a bold, innovative and
inclusive teaching and research university of academic distinction and
public service where staff, faculty, and students alike are challenged
to be active citizens of the world. Cornell is the federal land-grant
institution of New York State, a private endowed university, a member
of the Ivy League/Ancient Eight, and a partner of the State University
of New York. Total university enrollment is approximately 22,000
students. Cornell employs 11,504 staff and 2,722 full and part-time
faculty members.
Cornell has seven undergraduate units and four graduate and
professional units in Ithaca, two medical graduate and professional
units in New York City, and one in Qatar. Undergraduate units include
the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Architecture,
Art, and Planning, College of Arts and Sciences, College of
Engineering, College of Human Ecology, School of Hotel Administration,
and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations. The graduate and
professional units include the College of Veterinary Medicine,
Graduate School, Cornell Law School, Johnson Graduate School of
Management, Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences in New
York City, and the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York and
Qatar; also the School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions.
Ithaca is a major educational center in the Finger Lakes region of
central New York State. The economy of Ithaca is based on education
and manufacturing with high tech and tourism in strong supporting
roles. Relocate America ranked Ithaca among the top 10 best places to
live in America 2007.
The CDO must possess a Ph.D. or other terminal degree and qualify for
tenure in an academic department. The CDO should have a comprehensive
command of research and policy on diversity in higher education.
