"Imagining Asia Now: The Challenge of Time and Space"Robyn Hunt (Professor of Acting) and Steven Pearson (Head of MFA

Acting Program), Dept. of Theatre and Dance, University of South Carolina, drawing

on their many years of experience in Japanese theatre and actor training methods,

will encourage us to summon our creative powers to engage today's world.

Workshop 1: Why Learning About Asia Can Make You a Better Teacher

Learn how to incorporate class exercises and hands-on activities into teaching

curricula in literature, social studies, the arts, and other related fields; demonstrate the

benefits of integrating Asia in broadening students' understanding of society.

WPUWorkshop 2: Discovering Asia using Web Technologies

Learn creative strategies to integrate Asia into the K12 curriculum; access educational

materials and online resources using Web 2.0 technologies; showcases teacher

candidates' projects based on their exploration of and rediscovery of Asia, its

culture and people.

Learn how to use the immensely rich traditions of activism from different regions of

Asia and the diasporas in New Jersey / NYC to enliven your classroom; focus will be

on "Myth Making, Myth Breaking."

Workshop 4: Teaching Asia through Art: Flavor of Chinese Ink Painting

Leading Chinese artist Zhiyuan Cong offers an introduction to Chinese ink painting

with a hands-on opportunity to experiment with the basic techniques and materials of

this universal form of communication.

Workshop 5: Teaching East Asia through Action

Learn to use technologies such as Google Earth to teach geography and research

projects on East Asia; design and edit your own interactive digital map, include your

own data points and evaluate information found on your maps.
