Coordinator for Latino Student Involvement and Advocacy

Responsibilities:

Responsible for creating community among Latino/Latina students and leaders,
serving as an advocate for the needs of Latino/a students in and out of the
classroom, and promoting the intellectual, personal, social, leadership, and
identity development of Latino/a students. The Coordinator will advise
Latino/a student organizations and leaders and encourage their involvement
in campus life and leadership development opportunities. The coordinator
will initiate, implement, and evaluate MICA signature programs and services
as well as coordinate assessment efforts to outreach and advocate on behalf
of underserved populations.

Duties:

Duties include attending organizational meetings and advising program
planners, serving as a departmental liaison with Latino/a organizations and
their leaders, and assisting in marketing organizations¹ programs. The
Coordinator should be entrepreneurial in establishing relationships with new
organizations and academic honoraries where Latino/a students are the
primary members. In addition, the Coordinator will provide outreach and
support to individual Latino/a students with a mission of creating community
and working toward the intellectual, personal, social and leadership
development of Latino/a students. Supervise Graduate Coordinator for
Multicultural Student Outreach and Advocacy.

The Coordinator will help to develop individual student Latino/a racial and
cultural identity through the co-sponsorship of programs with academic and
student affairs departments and other student organizations. Serving as a
program liaison, the Coordinator will coordinate the efforts of organization
advisors and University agencies in delivering services to Latino/a
students. The Coordinator will coordinate and implement program offerings
that might include the following: welcome and orientation programs, Hispanic
Heritage Month events, leadership development programs, organizational
retreats, community wide programming, MICA Multicultural Leader Summits,
MICA Cross-cultural Brown-bag Series, and town hall meetings.

The Coordinator will have an opportunity to teach leadership classes,
outreach to and consult with campus partners, and be involved in
facilitating cross-cultural, educational workshops, programs, and
initiatives that promote social justice. The Coordinator will work in
partnership with other Adele H. Stamp Student Union units and campus
colleagues in delivering quality programs, advising and serving students
enrolled at the University.

Qualifications:

Bachelor¹s degree required, master¹s degree preferred. Two years of
professional experience in student affairs work in a University setting is
required. The ideal candidate shall possess sound judgment, maturity,
sensitivity to the complexities of identity development, and passion for
effecting change in dynamic multicultural environments. Must be a team
player with excellent customer service skills. Experience in advising
Latino/a and students and organizations is strongly preferred. Experience
and interest in working with students of color, LGBT-identified students,
and multiple, intersecting identity student issues is also preferred.
Comfort with and knowledge of web-based applications in both Windows and
Macintosh operating system platforms are a plus.

Position is twelve-month exempt staff level and reports to the Assistant
Director of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union. The position sits in the
Office of Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy.
