Job Announcement:    HUMAN RELATIONS DIRECTOR

Salary:   $86,382 - $115,128 annually

The City of Portland is seeking qualified candidates for the position
of Human Relations Director in the Office of Human Relations.  The OHR
is a city bureau recently created whose mission is to eliminate
discrimination and bigotry, strengthen inter-group relationships and
foster greater understanding, inclusion and justice for those who
live, work, study, worship, travel and play in Portland. The OHR will
provide leadership on civil and human rights issues through the
coordination advocacy, education, research, and intervention services.

Position Description

The Human Relations Director is responsible for directing,
coordinating, planning and overseeing all of the functions and
activities of the Office of Human Relations. Because this is a new
Office, the Director will be responsible for implementing staff,
program and systems development. Additionally, the Director monitors
programs and research, provides informational and technical assistance
services, and initiates special projects.  Work also includes
preparation and monitoring of the annual budget; maintaining effective
liaison with city government, regional and national human rights
organizations; providing leadership for community human rights
projects and efforts; serving as executive staff to the Office of
Human Relations and the Human Rights Commission, and complying with
administrative requirements associated with a city bureau.
Supervision is exercised over clerical and professional staff.  Work
is performed with considerable independence based on Commission
policies and reviewed by the City Commissioner-in-Charge through
conferences and reports, for the effectiveness of the program.
