Appalachian State University is seeking nominations and applications for
the Director of the Lee H. McCaskey Center for Student Involvement and
Leadership (CSIL). Appalachian State University is a member institution
of the University of North Carolina System and is located in Boone, NC
in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina with a student
enrollment of approximately 15,000.
CSIL is a department reporting to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for
Student Development. A primary focus of CSIL is to engage students in
co-curricular and curricular learning experiences that contribute to
their leadership, professional, academic, and personal development
through collaborative programs and services. Functions of CSIL include
co-curricular leadership development programs, coordination of an
academic leadership minor, teaching leadership courses, Plemmons Leader
Fellows Program and Scholarship, New Student Orientation Phase II,
Student Publications, Greek Life, organizational development and
coordination of over 250 recognized student clubs and groups, student
governance, and advisement of selected student honor societies. The
director provides leadership, management, and supervision for the Center
and its staff along with actively engaging with students, faculty, and
staff at the University. CSIL is a high-energy and high-traffic office
with significant student interaction and contact. The director will
supervise a staff of five (5) professionals. The Director also has a
close working relationship with the staff of Multicultural Student
Development whose offices are currently housed in CSIL.
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a related discipline and
have completed a minimum of five (5) years of progressively increasing
administrative responsibility in Student Development. Highly qualified
candidates will possess seven to ten (7 to 10) years of increasing
levels of responsibility, leadership and related experience.
Additionally, candidates should have experience in curricular and
co-curricular leadership programming, student organization advisement,
program development and implementation, budgeting, staff development and
supervision, assessment, and a proven history of student advocacy.
Candidates should be committed to working in a collaborative and
team-oriented environment which engages students, staff, and faculty.

The anticipated start date is July 1, 2008. Salary and benefits are
competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
