The Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) is seeking an energetic
executive to partner with the Board and staff and lead IEL as it advocates
for and promotes better education and better futures for all of America's
children. IEL is uniquely positioned as a nonpartisan, hands-on,
well-connected national organization with more than 40 years of experience.
The Institute develops diverse leadership for education, and creates
leadership networks to build the capacity of individuals and organizations,
and supports student learning and development. The Board is committed to
helping IEL become a force for change. The Board's vision is to build on the
core assets of IEL: its nationally regarded leadership in developing
education leaders, its relationships with education policy makers, and its
hands-on, innovative programs that build the capacity of communities and
states across America.
The Board seeks a leader who will build on the lessons of IEL's broad
experience to chart a course that powerfully positions the organization to
increase its voice and presence in the efforts to build an education system
for the 21st century.
IEL is a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. Since 1964 IEL
has operated initiatives at all governance levels, and currently provides
direct services in 46 states and the District of Columbia. For more

The Position - The President assumes the overall responsibility for all
aspects of fund raising, programs and services, budgeting, staffing, and
execution of policy initiatives. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the
President serves as lead spokesperson for the organization and leads the
fundraising and resource development work. Working externally to develop
relationships with diverse stakeholders, including partner organizations and
funders, is an essential part of the President's role.
The Ideal Candidate - The ideal candidate must demonstrate a passion and a
commitment to the mission of IEL. The President assumes the overall
responsibility for all aspects of fund raising, programs and services,
budgeting, staffing, and execution of policy initiatives. The candidate must
join with the Board, staff, and partners to provide timely and high-quality
research and analyses that support a compelling vision for the organization.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President serves as lead
