Green River Community College is located on a 168-acre wooded site near
Auburn, Washington, about 30 miles from both Seattle and Tacoma. The college
opened in 1965 and enrolls over 9,000 students, includes 11 instructional
divisions and 50 vocational programs, and employs over 1000 full and part-time

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Director of Diversity Services is responsible for the leadership,
coordination, and strategic direction for the College’s comprehensive diversity
and equity initiatives. The individual in this position works collaboratively
with college administration, faculty, and students to create a strong,
supportive and inclusive environment for underrepresented students and is
responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating support services and activities.
This position coordinates intellectual discourse among students, staff,
faculty to promote the social benefits of diversity and multiculturalism; and
investigates ways to increase multicultural representation and enhance
graduation rates. The Director of Diversity Services also performs administrative
functions such as budget management, strategic planning, policy development,
customer service, and assessment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Leadership and Strategic Direction:
* Consult with campus community in addressing issues of recruitment
and retention of ethnic underrepresented students.
* Facilitate activities, programs, and dialogue campus-wide to promote
diversity throughout the college community.
* Act as liaison to the GRCC campus in terms of program content,
policies and procedures; develop and implement new procedures and exercise
independent judgment in interpreting and applying rules and regulations.
* Serve as a member of the President’s Commission on Diversity and the
Multicultural and Equity Council (MEC) in developing and/or implementing
campus-wide strategic diversity initiatives.
* Develop and foster relationships with staff and faculty to promote
professional development opportunities and curriculum development in the areas
of diversity.
* Provide leadership and guidance to advisors and student clubs;
implement multicultural programs and activities in collaboration with student
leaders.
* Act as a resource for multicultural issues, e.g. participate in
student leadership training, Center for Teaching and Learning workshops; manage
and acquire resource materials for Diversity Services.
Coordination Responsibilities:
* Attend and participate in meetings and trainings related to the
College Success Foundation (CSF), the Passport to College Program, and community
support organizations.
* Foster communication and provide services to CSF scholars at GRCC;
work closely with CSF feeder schools in order to recruit students to GRCC.
* Evaluate student learning outcomes and effectiveness of CAP program,
Passport to College program and other diversity initiatives. Assist with
academic monitoring of underrepresented students and follow-up with students in
academic difficulty.
Program Responsibilities:
* Update supervisor via weekly staff meetings/ emails/ written
documentation; participate in campus meetings including but not limited to
department meetings, Student Services Leadership, MEC or meetings as directed by
supervisor in order to hear campus concerns and offer program services.
* Supervise, and evaluate the Commencement Achievement Program Support
Supervisor and part-time hourly staff.
* Maintain accurate records of office operations and budget expenses
to satisfy various reporting and auditing requirements and funding proposals.
* Administer continual program improvement efforts; including
evaluative program assessment and revision.
* Seek alternative funding opportunities through grant writing and
active participation in campus grant initiatives.
* Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Master’s Degree required in student development, social work,
cultural diversity, multicultural education, or related field.
* Outstanding commitment and significant experience working with
underrepresented populations.
* Two years experience in an educational setting providing direct
service to students.
* Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate and implement student
workshops.
* Demonstrated supervisory experience.
* Excellent verbal, written and communication skills.
* Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in a college or
university setting
* Established record of experience in working with underrepresented
students.
* Experience advising student groups.
* Assessment and budget oversight.
* Grant Writing experience.

* Ethics, integrity, confidentiality and sound professional judgment.
* Strong administrative skills.
* The ability to effectively convey ideas and information verbally and
in writing using language that is appropriate to both the complexity of the
topic and the knowledge and understanding of the reader.
* Proven track record of strong organizational, communication,
follow-through, and problem-solving abilities.
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively in the
interests of a diverse student body and campus community.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is an exempt position with an annual salary range of $46,000 to
$51,000. Position includes an excellent state benefits package (health and dental
plans, participation in TIAA-CREF Retirement Plan, 24 vacation days per year,
11 paid holidays per year, and 12 sick days per year). Other fringe
benefits include tuition exemption, convenient daycare, and on-campus fitness
center. Occasional work occurs during the evenings and on weekends.
