THE JOY OF UNLEARNING RACISM

If you?re a white person who has experienced the joy, I?d like to hear
from you!

Many white people see unlearning racism as something to be feared and
avoided. They assume it will be painful and reveal negative things
about themselves. However, many people (including myself) who have
actually participated in meaningful experiences to unlearn racism have
in fact found it to be a liberating and healing process which improves
our lives and helps us regain our full humanity.

I want to write about what is to be gained from unlearning racism and
why it is a valuable endeavor. I am trying to identify the specific
ways white people have benefited from their efforts to become
anti-racist?psychologically, emotionally, socially, interpersonally,
spiritually, professionally, intellectually, physically, etc.

As an educator, some questions underlie my interest in this topic: As
we try to engage white people in unlearning racism, how can we better
articulate the positive outcomes of this process? How can we better
frame it in a way that increases their willingness to do this work? How
can we acknowledge the challenges, while holding out the benefits of
doing it?

You can participate by:
?Sending me a paragraph, a page (or more!) describing specific ways
you?ve been positively impacted by unlearning racism and/or what helped
you stay on the journey.
?Contacting me to discuss this further and/or to set up a short
interview.

Thanks so much for your assistance. Please share this with others.
