I know that Dr. Joseph Ponterotto at Fordham University has done some impressive work with the original Multicultural Knowledge and Awareness Scale (MKAS) and its' revised version the MKAS-B. He was very helpful to me when I conducted a confirmational study on his instrument, confirming its' validity and reliability which resulted in the creation of another instrument assessing Cultural Competence called C.A.L.L. Cultual Appreication in Lifelong learning. Ihave piloted it numerous times in a variety of professional development and academic settings, most recently in our school of education. http://www.hiceducation.org/Edu_Proceedings/Sherri%20Dessirea%20Tapp.pdf

You can read more about the design of the instrument and how it is used at the following: The instrument takes about 2-3 minutes to administer. Let me know if you want further information.

Subject: (NAME-MCE) request for survey/ questionnaire tool

Dear Colleagues:

My organization is helping a local integration of suburban school districts conduct a Needs Assessment to address the professional development needs of educators in building inter-cultural competence and skills in relation to 1) curriculum development and instruction and 2) building parent-community partnerships. We are attempting to establish a baseline of information on member-district educators' professional development assets and needs.

We are responsible for identifying or designing baseline a survey and administering it online. I wondered if any of you knew of an existing tool that may be appropriate for this purpose? Finding one that has already been piloted or even that needs someone to pilot it might make more sense than starting from scratch. If you happen to know of anything, I would sincerely appreciate your contacting me at the information below.
