For Storytelling Performances OR workshops:
THE EIGTEENTH MULTICULTURAL STORYTELLING FESTIVAL
April 23–26, 2008
The "Multi-Cultural Storytelling Festival & Concert" is meant to be
one positive way to bring cultural awareness and appreciation of
other peoples to our communities, especially to our children. During
this past festival, nationally-known tellers from three different
cultures visited some 7,000 students in 27 schools. The tellers
also present workshops, library storytelling, and an evening concert
for the community.
We will once again bring some of the finest tellers in the nation here
to Eugene to share their cultural wealth with Eugene and neighboring
communities. This year's festival is sponsored by the Lane Arts
Council and produced jointly with the Very Little Theatre.
Our special tellers this year will be:
LYN FORD is a fourth generation storyteller who shares her "Home-Fried
Tales" from her African-American heritage. Lyn has performed from
Tennessee to Hawaii, including as a storyteller-in-residence at the
National Storytelling Center. In 2005, she received one of the
National Storytelling Network Oracle Awards. Her recordings include
"Rabbit Tales, Too" and "Papa God's Gift."
ESTHER ACOSTA - For Esther Acosta, "La Vida Esta Llena de Cuentos"
…"Life is Full of Stories." Esther has been telling stories for over
20 years. She has received the 2005 Bates Award for the Colorado
Teacher of Outstanding Contributions in Human Relations, and has told
throughout the United States, including the National Storytelling
Festival.
DAYTON EDMONDS - From the southern summer dance grounds of Oklahoma to
the wildlife refuge of the snowy northwest; from stories of ancestral
circuits and stories of the present-day struggles, Dayton Edmonds, a
full-blooded Native American of the Caddo nation, weaves tales of his
people and their history.
The festival community concert will be 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April
26th and is produced jointly with the Very Little Theatre.
If you would like to book one or more of these tellers, they may be
able to be in Eugene a few days before April 23rd, and/or stay through
Sunday, the 27th to perform or present a workshop. Please contact
Robert Rubinstein for available dates and times.
The MultiCultural Storytelling Festival pays for the tellers'
transportation, room and board. Your group would be responsible for
directly contacting the teller and paying that teller's fee.
Sincerely,
Robert Rubinstein, Director
