(NAME-MCE) BaFa BaFa

If it is the one I participated in, I found it to guarantee frustration
which in my opinion does not move us closer to understanding or
enlightenment. The operational premise of the exercise is that each
team must communicate in a particular way which happens to be offensive
or inappropriate to other teams' ways. Even if you are an astute
observer of behavior differences, you are not allowed to alter your
method of communicating. It is that latter point that I found to be
problematic. It imposes the situation that we don't learn while
engaging and are able to remediate our behaviors.
The original premise that we each carry cultural behaviors with us that
might offend others is a valid point. Beyond that, I think the exercise
is less than successful.

As with all presentations of this sort, much also depends on the
facilitators. My experience (if I have the right training) may have been
influenced in that way. I'm curious what others think. I'm open to
having a different opinion and trying for a second and more productive
experience.

Has anyone heard of the BaFa BaFa cultural sensitivity training? I'd be
interested in hearing thoughts and opinions about it.

  Thanks!
