Hello NAME Friends;
I am sure that many of you are preparing for our Annual Conference,
convening next week in Baltimore, October 31-Nov. 4 in the Hyatt Inner
Harbor.
Bill Howe sent out a message with some great suggestions on getting ready
for the conference. I have few additional ideas for you as well:
--Bring lots of your business cards, as the NETWORKING opportunities are
one of the most outstanding reasons to be at NAME. You will certainly make
some wonderful new friends and important contacts. If you are job hunting,
bring your resume; if you are hiring, bring the job description as NAME's
Job Bank offers a great chance to connect. (Contact Rosie Casteneda who is
coordinating the Job Bank this year
--SAVE ROOM in your suitcase for the incredible items, new publications,
and extraordinary things you will find in the Exhibit Area. There will also
be resources to collect in the Resource Room.
--One great way to save some room in your suitcase is to pack something to
donate to the SILENT AUCTION. Again, this year we are asking EVERYONE to
donate items to our Silent Auction fundraiser to benefit NAME programs and
scholarships. We have had some outrageous, rare and absolutely terrific
items donated in past years. (People are STILL talking about the 6-pack of
Polygamist Beer donated by our Utah members 2 years ago.) Please bring
along something to donate and plan to bid on something extra special to
take home with you! You can drop off items for the Silent Auction at the
NAME booth or the conference office when you arrive.
--Consider VOLUNTEERING a few hours of your time at the conference. This is
a great way to meet new people and really feel like this is YOUR party
too.... Stop by the NAME booth and sign up for one of the volunteer jobs.
You can help us make the conference run smoothly!
--Come with a favorite piece of poetry (original or otherwise) or with an
idea for improvisational rapping, so you can participate in the SLAM POETRY
event.
The first part of the program will be devoted to Spoken Word, where
everyone is encouraged to share a piece of work (not part of the
competition). The second half of the evening--the Slam Poetry--section is
open to those ready to compete with something original and dynamic. Its
sure to be a memorable evening, sponsored by our great friends at
Edchange.org!
Thanks for all the ways you contribute to making NAME such an extraordinary
community and for all the ways you will help make our conference a
memorable event!
Looking forward to seeing you in Baltimore! Travel safely!

Praying for Peace,
