Hi. I am a teacher educator at one of CUNY colleges, and I can see how early instruction in Spanish can be beneficial to a child whose parents only speak English. However, as someone already mentioned, the success or failure of this endeavor depends on the motives behind the implementation of the program. If the program is implemented on all Spanish-speaking children,it can be a good thing, especially if it gives parents an opportunity to participation in the educational process of their children. If on the other hand, the enrolment in the program is selective, it can send a different message to the students who are in it. There si a lot that can be said, but one would need to know the true philosophy behind the program. Immaculee Harushimana
