I am not a big fan of Encounter either.  When I finish reading the  book I 
think to myself, "If only the Native Americans had listened to the  boy.  All 
would be saved!"  The Taino are blamed for being colonized  by their failure to 
listen to the boy and his dream/vision.  Once again,  the victims are blamed 
for their demise not because of colonization but by their  failure to act. I am 
not sure Jane Yolan is an "authentic" voice.
