Subject: ICE Raids in Portland Oregon
Dear Family, Friends and Associates,
Yesterday, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement department raided
the Del Monte Fruit Packaging Factory in the St. Johns Neighborhood in
Portland. They detained 167 people who didn't have documents. The
factory is less than a mile from my school and the raid terrorized
families in my community. It separated parents from their children and
in some cases left children without a place to go home to. The 165
people are on their way to deportation procedings in Tacoma and it is
not known exactly what will happen next. It is a sad day for many and
we have been working tirelessly today to try to make sure that our
children and their families are safe. All that was achieved with
these raids was the realization of the deepest nightmares of the
children and the families that live here and across the country. We
will not fully understand the repurcussions of today for a while but
the communities that we live in are filled with fear. Human beings
deserve better than this.
Many families are left unable to support themselves for fear of being
swept up in the next raid. We are currently collecting donations to
help support the families in our community. If you have resources
please let me know. I can be reached at 971-207-7163 or 541-543-6299.
If you would like to make a monetary donation you can go to any US
Bank and deposit money into an account titled St. Johns Families. This
money will be used to support the families of James John Elementary
School.
Thank you all.
With hope for a better tomorrow,
Jay Breslow
