LIVING TOGETHER
EDUCATION AND INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE
WCCES XIII WORLD CONGRESS of
COMPARATIVE EDUCATION SOCIETIES
SARAJEVO 3-7 SEPTEMBER 2007
Goals of the Congress:
To develop theory and methodology of comparative and international
education based on intercultural dialogue
To develop a network of research fields in comparative and international
education particularly in the regions that have not previously developed
those fields (e.g. countries in transition)
To develop curriculum and to present positive pedagogical practices of
teachers, which will aim at affirming intercultural dialogue
Sarajevo Congress would like to draw attention of all comparative
educators to a multicultural environment and traditional tolerance that
has characterized Sarajevo for many centuries and whose existence had to
face the challenges of nationalism and intolerance so much present in the
recent past.
What do we want to achieve?
To brainstorm the ideas, knowledge and practices on comparative
education in the Balkan region and other countries in transition, as well
as worldwide.
To raise awareness and to develop attitudes about the constant nurturing
of intercultural communication through dialogue and understanding
To initiate research, publications, exchanges and distribution of
knowledge, and ideas in the field of comparative education
To develop cooperation with other disciplines which are connected to the
issues of education and culture in the broadest context.
Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The
city is considered one of the most important cities in the Balkans and has
had a long and rich history since it was founded by the Ottomans in 1461.
For over four hundred years, mosques, synagogues, Orthodox and Roman
Catholic churches have been built and have stood side by side here.
Citizens of different nationalities and religious orientations live and
work together, developing their city and their own style of togetherness
regardless of conquerors and foreign rulers whose identity changed over
and over again, fast or slowly, depending on the historical and
geopolitical situations and the great-power interests. See
