We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the new book “Methods for
Social Studies Methods: What We Do and Why We Do"

This represents a unique opportunity to present your best teaching ideas
and interpretations to the wider public, and the unique opportunity for
readers to find in one place good ideas about teaching social studies
methods. Your contribution shouldn’t take long to write. These are
relatively short and you are writing about aspects of your teaching that
you have given a lot of time and thought to. But your contribution will
be read and valued by many readers

This book will include:

1. A critical literature review of the research on social studies
teacher education and identification of areas in need of additional
research 2. An analysis of the themes, tensions and foci of the
contributions we receive

You may choose to structure your contribution in one of the following ways:

1. Provide an assignment and explain how and why you use it. a. A copy
of the assignment
b. 1800 word explanation
2. Describe a book or film or other resource and how and why you use it
(up to 1800 words)
3. Pedagogy: Describe a particular class session or activity and explain
its rationale (up to 2000 words)
4. Field Experiences: What do students do and why? (up to 2000 words)
5. Course Conceptualization and Rationale (up to 2000 words)

Please note: A very important part of each contribution is a thorough
discussion of the purposes associated with the assignment, resource,
pedagogy, field experiences or overall course conceptualization. This
book is intended to further both the practice of social studies methods
and its conceptualization, so a discussion of the rationale, along with
the descriptive part of the method offered is crucial.

Please send your contribution electronically by March 1, 2007 to Ramona
Fruja, Research Assistant at frujaram at msu.edu
Thank you!
