2007 Closing the Achievement Gap Conference
and Celebrating Student Success Banquet

Oregon Convention Center, Portland OR

May 11, 2007

The Closing the Achievement Gap conference is a broad professional
training and public awareness event designed for educators,
administrators, community leaders and parents. A variety of workshops
are offered focusing on research based strategies, techniques, and
programs Oregon schools are using to increase success for all students
and close the achievement gap. Workshops, speakers, and peer trainers
cover topics involving a variety of student groups, including ethnic
minorities, students living in poverty and homelessness, students with
disabilities, foster children, English language learners, and more.

The Celebrating Student Success Banquet takes information from the
conference one step further by uniting members of the community,
business people, civic leaders and educators in a forum aimed at
celebrating leadership within the K-12 school system that are making
great strides in narrowing the achievement gap.

The 2007 Recipient and Finalist schools will be honored for their
accomplishments at the banquet. The Recipient schools will receive a
grant award and their strategies for success will be honored in a
video presentation. We are pleased to partner with Portland Schools
Foundation's Excellence in Education Awards for this event.

Registration, call for presenters and event information is coming in
late January and early February on the ODE website at
www.ode.state.or.us - click on "Closing the Achievement Gap." Please
check the website for updates.
