RAISING ACHIEVEMENT and CLOSING GAPS CONFERENCE

March 26-28, 2007

The 2007 Raising Achievement and Closing Gaps Conference continues to
reflect our overarching direction in "Changing the Way We Do Business
in the Village." This year the conference highlights the R3 theme of
rigor, relevance and relationships as key components in defining
student success.

Additionally, two cornerstones of the conference are anchored in the
report Increasing Opportunity to Learn via Access to Rigorous Courses
and Programs: One Strategy for Closing the Achievement Gap for At-Risk
and Ethnic Minority Students and the North Carolina Advisory
Commission on Raising Achievement and Closing Gaps' twelve
recommendations to the State Board of Education. These two documents
delineate strong, sound principles that require focused attention to
move all students toward desired outcomes.
