The University of California, Berkeley (UC-Berkeley) invites
applications for a position as an Assistant Professor (tenure-track)
in any of the following three areas: (1) K-12 Education Policy and
Equity; (2) Education and Community/Student Social Processes; (3)
Education and Immigration. The search is part of the newly-approved
interdisciplinary Berkeley Diversity Research Initiative, and will be
conducted as part of the Education Diversity and Democracy cluster of
this Initiative.

Qualifications

Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D., Ed.D., or J.S.D. degree by
July 1, 2007, in education, public policy, law, or one of the social
sciences, or in an interdisciplinary field with substantial
preparation in social sciences, or a J.D. in combination with
substantial training in social science research. They should have a
research and teaching portfolio that examines how the educational and
related institutions, policies, and practices adapt (or fail to adapt)
to an increasingly multi-racial, multi-ethnic population. Special
consideration will be given to candidates who work in any of the
following areas:

(1) policies to improve educational achievement and attainment of
racial, ethnic minority, and immigrant students;
(2) community and institutional dynamics, student culture, and their
relationship to efforts to improve schools and education practices;
and
(3) the special challenges involved in creating effective learning
communities for immigrant children, and the relationship of school
improvement to the opportunity and acculturation processes in
immigrant communities.

Application Procedure:

Applications must include a letter of interest, a CV, and up to three
significant writing samples. Arrange to have three letters of
recommendation sent to the address below. Candidates should direct
their recommenders to the University's statement on confidentiality.
