Latinas in the State of Oregon and the nation face many obstacles
pertaining to leadership, education, economic development, health and
wellness due to linguistic and cultural differences, as well as race-
and sex-based stereotypes. The goal of El Poder de la Mujer's Latinas
Conference is to empower Latinas with the knowledge and skills to deal
with these everyday issues. This is the only Latina conference in
Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

The first El Poder de La Mujer's Latinas Conference was a great
success, with over 300 attendees from throughout the state of Oregon.
The conference provided workshop tracks on leadership, business,
health and wellness, and a student track. Our awards luncheon keynote
speaker was Alma Morales Rojas, president of MANA, a national
organization for Latina women. The 2007 conference will have a similar
format with the addition of an evening reception and fashion show. The
conference will take place March 1, 2007, in Portland, Oregon, at the
Red Lion Inn on the River at Jantzen Beach.

Who should attend

Latina High school and university students and graduates, educators,
business and health professionals, community activists.

For most Latinas and especially young Latinas, the speed with which
our society is changing has created additional barriers to their
personal and professional success. Many Latinas are at a disadvantage
in education, employment, economics, housing, health, and politics.
However, statistics show that those Latinas who are mentored by their
peers are more likely to achieve greater success in education, career
development, and economic advancement. With these statistics in mind,
we have developed conference tracks that focus on each of these areas.

Track A: Leadership Track B: Health & Wellness
Track C: Students
Seeking Success
Track D: Business & Career Development
