Term of Contract: one-year renewable contract
Salary Range: $31,000 - $36,000 Commensurate with relevant experience
and education, (12 month annual rate)
Starting Date: February 1, 2008
The University of Oregon, located in Eugene, Oregon is a comprehensive
public research university with an enrollment of 20,000 students
pursuing studies in six professional schools, the College of Arts and
Sciences and the Graduate School.
The Office of Multicultural Academic Support provides holistic and
culturally competent academic advising and resource referral to
self-identified domestic students of color and other interested persons.
The office sees over 4,500 students a year and supplements advising
offered in academic departments and centrally through the Office of
Academic Advising. The Office of Multicultural Academic Support is a
unit reporting directly to the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity
and Diversity.
Qualifications:
A candidate for this position should meet the following qualifications:
1. A Master's degree with study in Social Work, Student Personnel
Services, Counseling Psychology, Academic Administration, Student
Development, Ethnic Studies, Sociology or Political Science and 1-3
years of relevant experience (can include graduate work experience) OR a
bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with 3-5 years of
relevant experience is required.
2. Experience providing academic advising and/or counseling in a
college/university environment is preferred.
3. Experience advising or counseling students from a variety of
multicultural or ethnic backgrounds.
4. 3- 5 years experience in retention program coordination and student
leadership development.
5. General knowledge of the organizational structures and operational
procedures in institutions of higher education.
6. Strong written, oral communication and computer skills. Bilingual
abilities are desirable.
7. Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to, respect for, and
understanding of educational and social developmental needs of students
of color.
8. Demonstrated ability to academically motivate under-represented
students.
9. Knowledge of Banner or other comprehensive student database system;
web design, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with university
teaching faculty and administrators are preferred.

to higher education. For each issue provide steps you would take to
explore and resolve student concerns as an academic advisor.
