Linfield College

Assistant Professor of Multicultural Education

Linfield College invites nominations and applications for a tenure track appointment in multicultural education to begin August 2008. Applicants with a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Multicultural Education or a related field who qualify for the rank of Assistant Professor are preferred, although applicants who are ABD may be considered if the degree is to be completed by January 2009. In addition to scholarly credentials, candidates must have enthusiasm for teaching in a small college atmosphere. Linfield College faculty members share a commitment to a liberal arts curriculum. Because of this, they are expected to teach core courses regularly and advise students on an ongoing basis.

The successful candidate will possess knowledge of and experience with multicultural education and education teaching strategies and should have a minimum of three years K-12 teaching experience, preferably at the elementary or middle school level. Successful teaching experience at the college or university level is also preferred. Responsibilities for this position will include teaching undergraduate courses in multicultural education (a writing intensive course) and possible courses in teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students, and introduction to general methods of teaching. The Linfield Education program serves the undergraduate K-12 education degree programs that prepare students for initial licensure. The typical course load is 12 credits per semester, including the supervision of student teachers.

Salaries and benefits are commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary scale.

Review of applications will begin immediately. Screening of applications will begin January 1, 2008 with a decision date in March 2008.

Send letter of application; complete personal, curricular, and professional résumé; official transcripts of all college and university work (sent by registrars of the institutions attended); samples of professional or scholarly work; teaching evaluations (if available); and three current letters of recommendation to Dr. Nancy Drickey, Chair of Multicultural Education Search Committee, Education Department, Linfield College, 900 S.E.
