ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT for CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION

PERFORMANCE PROFILE

Minimum Qualifications.
-	Education Administration certification (in New York-SDA)
-	At least 7 years successful teaching experience
-	At least 5 years education administration experience

-	Effective staff management, supervision and evaluation
-	Exemplary interpersonal skills and cross-cultural competency
-	High level written & verbal communication skills with all 
stakeholders regarding instructional program
-	Deep understanding and demonstration of equity as it relates 
to affirmative development of students and staff
-	Participation in regional, state and national student 
curriculum associations
-	Effective executive team member (supports/challenges up & out)

Skills and Performance Expectations.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated accomplishments in:
-	curriculum leadership, e.g. overcoming  obstacles to 
institute cutting-edge course work
-	development/evaluation/management of K-12 curriculum, e.g. 
horizontal & vertical articulation between elementary & middle school 
and middle school & high school levels
-	coordination/evaluation/reporting of federal/state program 
mandates (timely filing)
-	coordination of district-wide testing program; public 
presentation of student test data. How have you worked with the admin 
team on scheduling? What venues have been successful for you to 
present data publicly?
-	budget development and management for department
-	successful supervision of administrators at all levels. 
Collaborative management style desired.
-	assessment and selection of instructional materials and 
utilization of effective processes for decision-making
-	successful recruitment, hiring, retention of a diverse 
instructional staff; methodologies for bringing in and retaining 
underrepresented groups 

Accountability.
- establishes working relationships with all supervisees
- is a resource to BOE regarding instructional matters/learning
   needs of students
- recommends plans for improvement of instructional program
- provides leadership to instructional staff regarding district mission and
   vision and statewide and federal compliance
- monitors timely submission of tenured and non-tenured teacher
        observations/evaluations


With your leadership, the District will:
- close the achievement gap between and among student demographic 
groups (steady reduction in gap over next 5 years, e.g. between 
students of color & students who are white; between students living 
in at near poverty & students who are not on F&R meal program)
- implement the district-wide Equity Plan. The Assistant 
Superintendent will work with Equity pillar team of administrators to 
make yearly progress on all 16 points
- achieve higher, measurable levels of student success (increases in 
test scores for ELA and math at all levels)
- keep abreast of educational research, trends, new practices; 
continual updates on NYS Learning Standards and student achievement
