Iowa's population is getting more diverse and young children are
leading the way!
Early Childhood Iowa, the Iowa Department of Human Rights and Drake
University's Urban Education Program invite you to attend "Early
Childhood and Diversity in Iowa: Challenges and Opportunities" a
one-day Symposium being held in Des Moines that will challenge early
childhood leaders to address how the changing face of Iowa is changing
early childhood and families services. The day-long event will be held
on from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at Drake
University's Olmsted Center.
The symposium will feature a national panel of experts in early
childhood programming, addresses by Iowa leaders and a key note from
Governor Chet Culver. A series of breakout sessions will showcase
local Iowa stories about how programs have adapted to address the
diverse needs of Iowans, including health programs for young children,
professional development, early care and education, child welfare,
infant and toddler services and family support.
Early Childhood Iowa, the Iowa Department of Human Rights and Drake
University are planning this day to start a conversation around
diversity and the early childhood system. We are specifically
targeting early childhood leaders, systems developers and program
managers from across the early childhood landscape, as well as
representatives from diverse communities who are concerned about young
children and their families. We hope you can come to learn with us and
share your thoughts, insights and experiences!
Attached are an informational brochure about the Symposium which
includes a preliminary agenda, information on the national panelists
as well as the break out sessions planned for the second half of the
day. Also included is a registration form. Please note that the form
can be filled out electronically, printed out and then mailed (along
with the $25.00 registration fee) to the address listed. Space is
limited so registrations will be accepted on a first come first serve
basis with registration closing on September 10th, 2007. We are also
asking that you share your preference for which afternoon breakout
session you might be interested in attending during the afternoon of
the 26th. Brief descriptions are available on the back of your
registration form.
We appreciate all the great enthusiasm that this event has generated
and are looking forward to learning with all of you on September 26th!
