Professional Opportunity: Middle School Educational Technology Support Specialist 07-08

This will be a full-time, year-round, overtime eligible (nonexempt) instructional support/staff appoint-ment. The position requires repetitive work, standing/sitting, walking to other parts of campus, and lifting and reaching with bulky objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities. The Middle School Educational Technology Support Specialist, reporting to Lakeside School's Director of Technology, will provide technical hardware/software support to Middle School faculty, staff, and students. Support includes configuration/installation of new Wintel-based machines and programs; diagnosis and repair of hardware/software problems; and coordinating major repairs with outside vendors. The primary goal of the position is to keep student laptops at peak functionality. Specific responsibilities include: (a) configuring and installing new hardware and software, troubleshooting and solving operational issues prior to installation, and helping to plan major hardware deployments; (b) diagnosing and repairing problems with hardware and software, and upgrading both for security and performance; (c) coordinating major repairs with outside retail repair facilities; (d) assisting students, faculty, and staff in routine computer use, acting as a "help desk," providing technical expertise, and advising on laptop/computer care and maintenance; (e) staying current with technology industry trends; (f) providing laptop and desktop computer classes to Middle School students. In addition, the position may support script-based on-line applications such as Moodle, Powerboard, and Media Wiki.
Qualifications. Candidates should have a four-year college degree (BA or BS; a computer-related degree or equivalent certification will be preferred), and must have experience installing, configuring, trouble-shooting, and repairing Windows-based computers (including expertise in Windows XP) and in handling repair depot processes and inventory practices. Applicants must have facility with Microsoft Office applications on a PC platform; superior organizational, multitasking, and prioritizing skills; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. References must attest to the person's attention to details, accuracy, and deadlines. Experience working in an educational setting, teaching early adolescents, managing computer networks, and working with Macintosh and Linux operating systems and/or PHP-based applications will be preferred. References should speak to the candidate's ability to maintain an approachable, pleasant and effective working relationship with students and staff; and his/her capacity to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
