Dear colleagues,
The mission of the Navajo Nation Research Program is to support research that
promotes and enhances the interests and the visions of the Navajo people: to
encourage a mutual and beneficial partnership between the Navajo people and
researchers; and to create an interface where different cultures, lifestyles,
disciplines,, and ideologies can come together in a way that improves,
promotes, and strengthens the health of the Navajo people.
The Navajo Nation Human Research Review Board (NNHRB) was developed in March
1996 to guarantee ethical research for the Diné people. They are
pleased to announce the 2007 NNHRB Conference to be held September 25 & 26,
2007 at the Navajo Nation Museum in Window Rock, Arizona. A pre-conference
workshop will also be held the evening of September 24 for 6:00 to 9:00 pm at
the Navajo Nation Museum for all researchers to learn about the Navajo Nation
Research Code and the expectations of the NNHRRB.
The conference goals are:
*To disseminate Navajo research findings to the Navajo Nation government,
Navajo Nation communities, tribal departments and service providers of the
Navajo public.
*To disseminate and facilitate the implementation of research findings within
governmental agencies such as the Indian Health Service, Bureau of Indian
Affairs, and others located on the Navajo Nation.
*To facilitate the use of research findings to inform clinical and public
health practice to public and private providers on the Navajo Nation.
*To provide a venue for discussions about collaboration between providers,
tribal health leaders, and researchers.
*To facilitate the use of research findings to fund programs.
*To further the use of research for prevention and to enhance services with a
better cultural understanding.
*To prioritize tribal concerns regarding research needs.
Conference participants are eligible to apply for continuing education units
from the University of New Mexico and continuing medical education credits
from
the University of Colorado.
